Thank you.

Like lots of boys, Miles McPherson dreamed of becoming a professional athlete. In 1978 Miles enrolled at the University of New Haven as engineering major & tried out for football. As a defensive back, McPherson was gifted with quickness and keen football instincts. He would soon stake his claim as one of UNH’s best. In fact, he became the University's first All-American and its first player to be drafted by the National Football League; in 1982 by the Los Angeles Rams. After the Rams he quickly found a home with the San Diego Chargers. Over the next years he made solid contributions as a punt returner, defensive back and special teams player.

From 1982 - 1985 Mikes played in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers. It was during this time that he developed a cocaine addiction that found the NFL star in a tailspin as he began feeding his habit. “I felt empty and alone,” he remembers. “Football didn’t satisfy me. I realized it would end soon and I didn’t know what I would do then."
San Diego Charger’s teammates, Sherman Smith and Ray Preston, intervened. As Christians, they urged Miles to give himself to Christ. The conversion came in the stark light of morning on April 12, 1984, a date Miles will never forget. “I’d been up all night doing coke,” he says. “I was out of control and I didn’t want to be that way anymore. That’s when I found Jesus and committed my life to him.”  Turning his back on drugs, Miles joined San Diego’s Horizon Christian Fellowship and began holding Bible study with neighborhood teens in his home. “That’s when my ministry began,” he declares. Soon he was doing motivational speaking for the Chargers’ organization.

In September 1986, Miles retired from football, went to work for Horizon as a youth pastor and enrolled in Azusa Pacific University’s School of Theology. He received his Master of Divinity degree in 1991 and the following year he founded Miles Ahead, a nonprofit youth ministry. Along the way he married and became the proud father of three children. In 2000 Miles founded the non-denominational Rock Church in San Diego, which has quickly become one of the nation’s largest and fastest growing churches, with an average weekly attendance of 12,000.

Born with a nearly imperceptible case of cerebral palsy, Chris Simning was stricken with an extremely rare muscle and nerve disease in the eighth grade. Five years confined to a wheelchair, and unable to care for himself, Chris experienced a miraculous healing that allowed him to finish his undergraduate degree from college as well as earn a Master’s degree from Azusa Pacific University in Clinical Psychology.
His passion for telling his story ignites him further to speak on how God brings healing to the wounded of heart even in the worst circumstances. Chris’ firsthand experience with the pain of life compels him to seek the provision of God. His zeal for the Bible, along with his humorous personality, endear him to people of all ages. Chris lives in Gilbert, Arizona and speaks to churches, youth groups, and camps nationally, as well as internationally.

Getting noticed for reasons beyond his control seemed like a negative, but over time and through a great deal of hardship, Chris has turned the stares into an all out stage of promise.
